A subsidy for publishing houses designed to finance the cost of translating literary or scientific works originally written and published in any of Spains official languages by Spanish authors.
Beneficiaries: Spanish and foreign publishing houses.

BECAS, AYUDAS Y SUBVENCIONES
LIBRO.- Ayudas y Subvenciones Libro 2007
List of documents required: The following documents must be presented together with the application form (INCLUDING SPANISH TRANSLATIONS WHERE SPECIFIED)
1) Document certifying the capacity of the firm as a publishing house, in accordance with the law applicable in the country where the publishing house applying for the subsidy is established (company registration) (SUMMARY TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH).
2) Catalogue of publications (including backlist).
3) Copy of the agreement signed between the publishing house and the translator of the work (SUMMARY TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH).
4) Curriculum vitae of the translator or translators (IN SPANISH)
5) A copy of the original work selected for translation. In the case of Anthologies, a complete list of contents must be included. Note that photocopies are not accepted in place of originals.
6) Document certifying the copyright holders consent (in accordance with the Spanish Law of Intellectual Property RDL 1/1996, of April 12th, 1996).
7) Annex II of Annex III
Amount of subsidy: The maximum amount of the subsidy will be that of the cost of translation.
Payment of awarded subsidies: Subsidies will be made effective once the pertinent Award Resolution is published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado official gazette.
In order for payments to be made effective, beneficiary publishing houses must first send a written acceptance of the subsidy.
Subsidy justification on the part of the publishing house:
1. - The publishing house has a period of 3 years, as of the date of publication of the Award Resolution in the Spanish official gazette, the Boletín Oficial del Estado, to publish the work. The
publishing house can request a one-year extension of this period provided there is a justifiable reason for the petition.
2. - Within the two-month period following the publication of the translated work, the publishing house must remit to the Subdirección General de Promoción del Libro, Lectura y Letras Españolas [Subdirectorate General for the Promotion of Books, Reading and Spanish Works]:
5 copies of the published work in which express mention is made of the following information in the book credits:
* AUTHOR and TITLE of the work in Spanish.
* Name of the translator or translators.
* The caption that follows must appear in the language in which the work is published:
The publication of this work has been made possible through a subsidy received from the Directorate General for Books, Archives and Libraries of the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
Document certifying that the publishing house has paid the translator the amount received as a subsidy for the translation of the work (this receipt must be sent either before or together with the 5 published copies, but never later).
Should the publishing house fail to justify the reception of the subsidy in these terms, it will have to RETURN the full amount.
