Measure and improve the quality of your translations: Kilgray Translation Technologies releases memoQ 2013
01/06/13 13:21 Archived in: Press Releases
Release date: 31 May, 2013
Kilgray Translation Technologies, developer of the translation solutions memoQ, memoQ server, memoQWebTrans, qTerm and Language Terminal, released memoQ 2013 and further improvements to memoQWebTrans and qTerm on 31 May, 2013.
memoQ 2013 will offer a wealth of productivity boosters for freelance translators, language service providers and enterprise customers alike.
Through Linguistic Quality Assurance, language service providers and enterprise users can measure the quality of their translations and translation vendors, whereas translation vendors can learn from and discuss the errors marked by their reviewers. The new discussions module introduces a complete query management. It replaces the current forums in memoQ, memoQWebTrans and qTerm, allows individual discussions on project-related items, and enables customers to get involved in ensuring highest quality terminology and translations. The memoQ server, qTerm and memoQWebTrans can be installed with the same installer. Creating back-ups and moving servers to other computers will also be easier. By running an edit distance analysis, server users will be able to measure the efforts of reviewers and machine translation post-editors. Smaller features include multiple comments to segments, advanced highlighting, fuzzy terminology lookup, and performance metrics.
Using Language Terminal, freelance translators – no matter whether they are using memoQ or not – can manage their translation projects in an easier way. In addition to creating real-time previews for translating Adobe InDesign files, memoQ translator pro and Language Terminal users can create quotations immediately after analyzing documents, keep track of the jobs and payments of their customers, and archive projects, quotations, files in the cloud without having a third-party tool.
Other features for freelance translators include a new productivity booster that establishes the target equivalent of words and expressions based on statistical methods – also called the translating concordance – fuzzy lookup in term bases, automatic translation for number-only segments, an integrated web search, and many other productivity features. The new release also adds support for new file formats, including GetText PO files, the XLIFF:doc and TIPP package formats of the Interoperability Now! Initiative, and a TMX filter for enhanced management and review of translation memory contents.
More information on these concepts is available at http://kilgray.com.

memoQfest USA a Major Success Among Participants
02/03/13 06:33 Archived in: Press Releases
Kilgray Translation Technologies held its first ever American user conference on January 31 - February 2, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. As with the highly successful memoQfest conferences that have been held in Europe for several years, the level of interaction among participants exceeded Kilgray’s expectations and contributed to the success of the event.
“memoQfest was probably the best investment US Translation Company has made in TM technology since purchasing memoQ”, said Claudia Hernandez from US Translation Company. The conference - just like its well-established European counterpart - started with an open account of where Kilgray stands and an update on their technology. Companies like XTRF, Plunet, Easyling, GlobalMe and Asia Online presented their integrations with memoQ. Besides presentations by industry leaders on various topics like business innovation, machine translation or technology deployment, the conference also had many interactive sessions. Of particular interest were the huddles, where teams of 8-15 participants discussed specific issues - terminology, system administration aspects, game localization, feature requests - in the hotel lobby with a Kilgray representative. “Really wonderful to learn who you are, what you are doing, and why you are doing it! The presentations were excellent and I would rather attend your future conferences than most other conferences.”, added David L. Shelton from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.
Every participant who answered the evaluation sheet was satisfied with the event, and they were particularly impressed with the organization and the networking possibilities. “memoQfest was a great opportunity to meet with other users and learn about features that can improve efficiency”, said Tamara Kislak from Venga Corporation.
The conference was sponsored by technology vendors Easyling, Plunet, and XTRF and by the translation company STP Nordic. Kilgray has plans to organize memoQfest USA again in 2014.

Kilgray Expands its Development Team
04/02/13 17:09 Archived in: Press Releases
Kilgray Translation Technologies, a company dedicated to the development of translation productivity tools, welcomes new employees and expands its development team as a result of the company’s continued growth: Monika Antunovics (formerly Microsoft) and Florian Sachse (formerly SDL Passolo) joined Kilgray in January 2013.
Monika Antunovics comes to Kilgray from Microsoft, where she spent more than a decade, first in the language quality assurance team and later as an international project manager in the Windows group. In the former role she was an advocate and early practitioner of modern terminology management, and she drove the successful implementation of an automated system for collecting and analyzing language quality assurance data, which she designed and partly implemented herself. As a program manager, she was responsible for local content in Windows, as well as testing localization quality and compatibility with local software and websites. Monika has a background in computer sciences and is fluent in five languages. Monika’s main duties include the design of some of memoQ’s new features and the management of some of Kilgray’s larger accounts.
Prior to joining Kilgray, Florian Sachse was one of the founders and the managing director of PASS Engineering GmbH, a business unit of SDL. He was also one of the chief developers of SDL Passolo, a tool dedicated to software localization. Within SDL Passolo, Florian’s focus was Microsoft .NET and he has given several .NET "Ask the Expert" sessions for the Institute of Localization Professionals (TILP). Florian is a member of diverse organizations such as OASIS, GALA and TILP. He was one of the partners in the European Union projects IGNITE, DANDELION and eColoTrain, all dedicated to standards in the localization process.
Florian enjoys sharing his knowledge with interested audiences by both speaking at conferences, and related events, or by authoring articles on software internationalization and localization. Florian joined to the Kilgray team as a senior developer and will contribute with his expertise to the success of memoQ.
